  • Approval of Minutes of the March 31, 2026, meeting. Motion to approve minutes made by Mikeneil. Motion passes 7-0.
  • Mike talked with our venders to put on emphasis on hosting presentations and the Senior Center. The past few presentations have been successful. An example given was the National Kidney Month presentation in February. The goal is to make the presentations more engaging by being more interactive to help boost attendance.
  • There will be a Bone Health and Nutrition presentation from MVES on Monday, May 11 at 1:30 PM at the Senior Center.
  • This month's Red Cross Blood Drive was a success, with the next one being scheduled sometime in August. The Red Cross enjoys working with the Senior Center as it is a location that is accessible to everyone.
  • Mystic Valley Elder Services started their Option Counseling this month, with their schedule being the second and the fourth Monday of each month. This program assists seniors with most things they may need help with. An example given was a senior who may need help paying a bill online.
  • There was a mention of a cooking demonstration that was held in the kitchen at the Center on Friday, April 24. There were complaints that the kitchen was very crowded at its 20-capacity limit.
  • The Sunshine Committee will be holding a Mother's Day celebration on Monday, May 11 at 12:30 PM. Cake will be served. Additionally, MVES will be hosting their 50th anniversary celebration on Friday, May 8 from 11:30 AM in the dining room.
  • Laura had suggested the inclusion of a Memorial Table for Malden Veterans at the Senior Center. The table must fit a uniform look with its own unique placket. It is planned to occupy one of the empty corners by the front entrance.
  • Starting May 11th, the city will be placing American flags at two cemeteries in Malden in honor of Veteran's Day. The program will run for two weeks from Monday to Thursday.
  • Additionally, the Sunshine Committee will be holding a Veteran's table at the Senior Center that will be personalized for our seniors.
  • There was a brief mention of Howard Margolin and a photo of him that was hung by the entrance of the Senior Center that has since disappeared.
  • Cheryl Spinella, our Activities and Volunteer Coordinator, retired on April 3rd after 30 years of service with the City of Malden. Currently, nothing will change with the staffing structure of the Senior Center, and her position will not be filled due to budgetary issues.
  • There was a mention of the AARP tax program that was relatively successful at the Senior Center. There was a suggestion to make the directions clearer upon arrival to the appointment as there was confusion and delays on the scheduled times.
  • The city will not be holding their Senior Jobs Program this year as well as significantly cutting back its Teen Summer Jobs due to budgetary issues.
  • The date for next Meeting set Tuesday, June 30, at 9:00 AM. There will be no meeting in May.
  • The Motion to adjourn is made at 10:06 AM by Mikeneil.
